Scaled recipe
About this tool
This recipe scaler resizes a recipe to the number of servings you actually need. Enter the original yield and your target servings, list the ingredient amounts, and it multiplies each one by the right factor — doubling, halving or any ratio in between. It saves you from error-prone mental math when you are cooking for a crowd or shrinking a recipe down for one. Fractions and mixed units are handled for you. It all runs in your browser, so your recipe stays private on your own device and the tool keeps working even without a connection.
Frequently asked questions
How does scaling a recipe work?
The tool divides your target servings by the original servings to get a multiplier, then applies it to every ingredient. Going from 4 to 6 servings, for example, multiplies each amount by 1.5, so 200 g of flour becomes 300 g and 2 eggs become 3. Ingredients that only come in whole units, like eggs, are best rounded sensibly — you cannot use exactly 1.5 eggs, so adjust to taste.
Does everything scale up perfectly?
Not quite. The main ingredients scale linearly, but a few things need judgement. Salt, spices and strong seasonings often need a little less than the math suggests, so add gradually and taste as you go. Cooking and baking times change far less than the quantity — a double batch is not cooked for double the time — and a larger amount may need a bigger pan or pot. Leavening such as baking soda also does not always scale exactly.
Is my recipe uploaded anywhere?
No. The scaling math runs locally in your browser with JavaScript, so the ingredients and amounts you type are never sent to or saved on a server. There is no account and no tracking. You can use it offline once the page has loaded, and your recipe stays entirely on your own device.
