About this tool

This kitchen timer is a simple countdown for cooking and baking, with quick presets for common times and a clear beep when the time is up. Type a duration or tap a preset, start it, and watch the seconds tick down while you carry on cooking. It is handy for boiling eggs, resting dough, steeping tea or any task where a minute or two matters. The timer runs in your browser tab and uses the Web Audio API for the alarm, so once the page has loaded it works offline and nothing about your cooking is sent anywhere.

Frequently asked questions

Does the timer keep running if I switch tabs?

Yes. The countdown keeps going while the tab is open in the background, and it tracks the real elapsed time rather than just counting ticks, so it stays accurate even when the browser slows background tabs down. The alarm sounds when time is up. For the most reliable results, keep the tab open and your device awake, and do not fully close the browser.

Why can't I hear the beep?

The alarm uses the Web Audio API, which browsers only allow to make sound after you have interacted with the page — so press start or another button first. Also check that your device is not muted and the volume is turned up; on phones, the screen may need to stay on. Once you have tapped a control, the beep will play through your speakers the moment the countdown reaches zero.

Does the timer need an internet connection?

No. The timer and its beep run entirely in your browser, so after the page has loaded it works completely offline — handy in a kitchen with patchy signal. No account is needed and nothing about your timer or your cooking is ever sent to or stored on a server.
