Binaural Beats Generator β delta, theta, alpha, beta & gamma
Generate binaural beats with adjustable carrier and beat frequency, plus presets for sleep, meditation, relaxation and focus. Headphones required.
π Runs entirely in your browser. Your input and output are never sent to a server or stored β fully private.
π§ Headphones are required β each ear gets a slightly different tone and the βbeatβ is created inside your head. Perceived effects are subjective; this is not medical advice.
About this tool
Play a slightly different pure tone into each ear and your brain perceives a third, pulsing beat that is not in the audio at all β that is a binaural beat. This generator lets you set the carrier frequency between 100 and 500 Hz and the beat frequency from 0.5 to 40 Hz, or jump straight to Delta, Theta, Alpha, Beta and Gamma presets. Both tones are synthesised locally in your browser with the Web Audio API, with nothing downloaded or uploaded. Headphones are essential: each ear must receive its own tone for the effect to appear.
Frequently asked questions
Why do binaural beats require headphones?
The beat is not present in the audio itself β it is constructed by your brain from the difference between the two ears. If the left ear hears 200 Hz and the right hears 210 Hz, the auditory system perceives a 10 Hz pulse. That only works when each ear receives its tone in isolation. Over speakers the two tones mix in the air before reaching you, and what remains is at most an ordinary acoustic wobble, not a true binaural beat.
Do binaural beats really change my brain state?
Treat the claims with healthy scepticism. The beat itself is a well-documented auditory illusion, but research on whether listening improves relaxation, focus or sleep is mixed: some studies report small effects, others find none, and responses vary a lot from person to person. Many listeners simply find the sound pleasant to focus or unwind with, which is a fine reason to use it. This tool is not medical advice and is no treatment for insomnia, anxiety or any other condition β for health concerns, talk to a professional.
What do the Delta, Theta, Alpha, Beta and Gamma presets mean?
The names come from EEG frequency bands used to describe brain activity: Delta (0.5β4 Hz) with deep sleep, Theta (4β8 Hz) with drowsiness, Alpha (8β13 Hz) with relaxed wakefulness, Beta (13β30 Hz) with alert thinking, and Gamma (above 30 Hz) with intense processing. Each preset simply sets the beat frequency inside that band as a convenient starting point; whether it nudges you toward that state is up to your own experience. The tones are generated on your device, so feel free to experiment.
