About this tool
Sorting out the bill is easy with this tip calculator: it works out the gratuity and the final total for a restaurant, café or taxi, then splits the cost evenly between any number of people. Enter the bill amount, choose a tip percentage and set how many are sharing, and it shows the tip, the grand total and what each person owes, rounded however you like. It is handy for dining out, group trips or quick checks. Every calculation happens in your browser and nothing you type is uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
How much should I tip?
Customs vary widely. In the United States 15 to 20 percent of the pre-tax bill is typical for table service, while in much of Europe and Asia a small round-up or 5 to 10 percent is normal, and some places add service automatically. The calculator lets you set any percentage to match local habits. These are general customs shared for information only, not financial advice — the final amount is always your choice.
How does splitting and rounding work?
After adding the tip, the total is divided by the number of people to give an even share. Because money only goes to two decimals, an exact split can leave a few cents over, so the tool can round each share up to the nearest unit and show any small remainder. The figures are estimates for convenience, and a cent or two may differ from what a payment app or card terminal finally charges.
Is my bill information stored?
No. The tip and split are simple arithmetic carried out entirely in your browser, so the bill amount and the number of people you enter are never sent to or kept on a server. Nothing about where or what you ate is recorded anywhere, and reloading the page clears every value instantly.
