About this tool

This generator builds a lined-paper PDF in three styles: classic ruled lines at 6, 7, 8 or 10 mm spacing, five-line music staves for writing notation, and three-line handwriting-practice groups with a dashed midline for learners. An optional red margin line completes the classic notebook look. Everything is generated locally in your browser — nothing is uploaded and no account is needed. Frequently asked questions
Which spacing matches college ruled or wide ruled paper?
US notebook paper is ruled at roughly 7.1 mm for college rule and 8.7 mm for wide rule, so the 7 mm setting is the closest match for college ruled, and 8 mm sits between the two — both are approximations rather than exact equivalents. Pick 6 mm if you write small or want more lines per page, and 10 mm for children or large handwriting. In much of the world, 7 or 8 mm is the everyday notebook standard.
How do I print it so the line spacing is accurate?
Print at 100% scale or choose "Actual size", and switch off "Fit to page" or any automatic shrinking — scaling changes the line spacing, so a 7 mm rule would no longer measure 7 mm. This matters most for handwriting-practice sheets, where consistent letter height is the whole point, and for music staves that need to match your other manuscript paper. Also check that the paper size selected in the print dialog matches the size you generated.
