Which grid type and spacing should I pick?
Use 5 mm squares as the everyday standard for notes, math homework and quick diagrams. Choose 2 mm — where the heavier line every fifth cell gives 10 mm majors — for engineering drawings and precise plotting. The dot grid is the bullet-journal favourite: the dots guide your layout but almost disappear behind writing. The isometric grid is for 3D work — its 30-degree triangles make cubes, piping runs and game-level sketches easy to draw at consistent angles.
How do I make the grid print at the exact millimetre size?
In the print dialog set the scale to 100% or choose "Actual size", and turn off any "Fit to page" or "Shrink to fit" option — those settings rescale the whole page, so the squares would no longer measure true millimetres. Also make sure the paper size in the dialog matches the size you generated (A4 or Letter). After the first page you can verify with a ruler: ten cells of the 5 mm grid should measure exactly 50 mm.
