Grade Calculator — weighted average & final grade needed
Calculate your weighted course grade, or the score you need on the final exam to hit a target — in your browser.
🔒 Runs entirely in your browser. Your input and output are never sent to a server or stored — fully private.
Add each item with its score and weight to get your weighted average.
Weights need not total 100% — the result is normalized by total weight.
About this tool
Juggling assignments that each count for a different slice of your grade? Enter every score with its weight and this calculator works out your weighted average, so a 20 percent midterm and a 50 percent final pull on the total by the right amount. It can also solve the reverse: tell it the grade you are aiming for and it shows the score you need on a remaining exam to get there. It is built for students planning a semester. All of it runs in your browser, so nothing you enter is uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
How is a weighted grade average calculated?
Each score is multiplied by its weight, those products are added together, and the total is divided by the sum of the weights. So with an 80 worth 30 percent and a 90 worth 70 percent, you get (80 × 0.3 + 90 × 0.7) divided by 1, which is 87. Heavier items move the average more, which is why a big final matters so much.
How does it find the score I need on the final?
It takes the grade you already have locked in from completed work, subtracts that from your target, and divides by the final's weight to see what score closes the gap. If the answer comes out above 100, the target is out of reach with that exam alone; if it is very low or negative, you have already secured the grade. It is a quick reality check before exam week.
Do the weights have to add up to 100 percent?
Not necessarily. Because the calculator divides by the total of the weights, it gives a correct average even when they add up to less than 100 — handy mid-semester when some assignments are still ungraded. You can use percentages or raw points, as long as you are consistent. Everything is computed on your own device in the browser, so the grades you type stay private and are never uploaded.
