About this tool
This typing speed test measures how fast you type in words per minute (WPM) while tracking your accuracy live and highlighting every character as correct or mistyped. Just start typing the sample passage and your speed updates as you go; hit restart for a fresh text whenever you want to try again. It all runs in your browser, so nothing you type is ever sent anywhere.
Frequently asked questions
How is words-per-minute (WPM) calculated?
By the standard convention, every five characters you type count as one word, so WPM is the number of characters divided by five and scaled to a minute. This test also factors in your mistakes, so leaving errors uncorrected lowers your effective, or net, speed.
What counts as a good typing speed?
The average adult types around 40 WPM. Reaching 60 to 80 WPM is considered fast and comfortable for most office work, while professional typists and programmers often exceed 100 WPM. Accuracy matters as much as raw speed, so aim to stay above 95 percent correct.
Is the text I type recorded or uploaded?
No. The whole test runs locally in your browser, so your keystrokes are measured on your device and never sent to or stored on a server. Refreshing the page simply clears the run and starts over.
