How it works
  1. The screen fills with a solid color. Click or press any key to cycle: white → black → red → green → blue → yellow → cyan → magenta.
  2. On each color, scan the whole screen. A pixel that stays black on bright colors is a dead pixel; one stuck on a single color is a stuck pixel.

What is the difference between a dead pixel and a stuck pixel?

A dead pixel receives no power in any of its subpixels, so it stays black on every background and is easiest to spot on the white screen. A stuck pixel has one or more subpixels frozen on, showing as a red, green, blue or white dot that is most visible on black. The distinction matters: stuck pixels sometimes recover on their own or with treatment, while dead pixels are almost always permanent hardware failures.

Can a stuck pixel be fixed?

Sometimes. Stuck pixels occasionally recover on their own after hours or days of normal use, and rapidly cycling colours over the affected area can encourage the frozen subpixel to start switching again. Some people gently massage the spot with a soft cloth while the screen is on, though this risks causing further damage, so proceed carefully. Dead pixels rarely come back — check your manufacturer's pixel-defect policy instead, since many will replace a panel above a certain defect count.

How should I run the test to get a reliable result?

Clean the screen first — a speck of dust is the most common false alarm, and unlike a real defect it moves when wiped. Use fullscreen mode, dim the room lights while inspecting the black screen and use normal light for the white one, then work slowly across the panel section by section.
