What are Open Graph and Twitter Card tags?
They are small meta tags in a page's head that tell social platforms how to display a shared link. Open Graph, originally from Facebook, sets the title, description and preview image that most networks read. Twitter Card tags do the same job on X and let you pick a layout, like a large image. Without them, platforms guess from the page and the card often looks bare or wrong.
Why won't the preview load the image from my URL?
By design. To protect your privacy, the tool never requests the image address you type β that URL is only written into the generated tags, never fetched. So the preview cannot pull a remote picture from it. If you want to see a real image in the mock-up, pick a local file from your device; it is read straight in the browser, shown in the card, and never uploaded anywhere.
Where do the generated tags go, and will every platform match the preview?
Copy the tags into the head section of your page's HTML, then redeploy so crawlers can read them. The preview here follows common conventions, but each platform crops images and trims text a little differently, and many cache the card β so use their official debuggers to force a refresh after changes. The tags are generated locally in your browser, and nothing you enter is sent to a server.
