About this tool

Set a target date and time and this tool shows a live countdown to it, ticking down the days, hours, minutes and seconds in real time. It is great for launches, deadlines, birthdays, holidays, exams or a New Year celebration — anything you are counting toward. The countdown updates every second using your device's own clock and runs entirely in your browser, so once the page has loaded it keeps going without any server.

Frequently asked questions

Which timezone does the countdown use?

It uses your device's local timezone. The target time you set is interpreted in that zone, and the remaining time is measured against your device clock, so the countdown matches the time you actually see around you. If you are counting toward an event in another timezone, enter the target time as it falls on your own clock.

What happens when the countdown reaches zero?

When the target moment arrives the countdown reaches zero, marking that the event is due. If you keep the page open past that point it simply stops at zero rather than counting on. To time a new event, just enter a different target date and the countdown restarts from the new value.

Does it need an internet connection?

No. The countdown runs entirely in your browser using your device's clock, so after the page has loaded it keeps ticking even offline. The target date and time you set are never sent to or stored on a server; everything stays on your own device, which keeps your plans private.
